WE LOVE HEARING FROM OUR MEMBERS!!

Shelly Scott Pankratz Aubrie Lyn Pankratz and Kiara Lea Pankratz have been volunteering this summer at the Golden Comfort Golden Age Center and the experiences they have had will be with them for the rest of their lives. They have learned about their community through the eyes of it's founders and they have learned so much about their paternal grandparents. I have been helping fill in the gaps for Meals on Wheels and have bonded with several people on the routes and the blessings are more then I could have imagined! When was the last time you got kissed on the forehead and hugged just because you dropped off a hot meal to a Senior of our Community! I know I am going to help out as I can in the fall.

Dinah Johnson is the perfect person to be the Executive Director of the Golden Age Center. She loves what she does and the people coming into the center love her. I can’t think of anyone else that could do as good a job as she does for the center. She has a way of getting volunteers to help out with various jobs. Those volunteers like helping her out.

Hi Dinah:

This is just a quick note with a big THANK YOU for all your hard work and persistence in helping me to get your newsletter up and running and the cost covered. Today we sold an ad that put us over our goal by a little more than $200.00. You will remember that I was very concerned when I first arrived in Comfort as to where we were going to get all these ads. Although Comfort is a beautiful, tranquil area, there’s not a large business district, like in most cities.

I have worked with Senior Centers nationwide now with these newsletters for almost 12 years, and you know I am almost constantly on the road (35 to 40 weeks a year). I have met a lot of nice and devoted senior center directors during this time, but I have to say I have never met one quite like you. I’ve told a number of people I have no idea how much you are paid for your job, but I am 100% confident it is not near enough.

In this world we live in, most people work ONLY to go home with their paycheck. They take no interest in bettering their company at all. Your devotion to your job and the seniors that you serve is truly an inspiration for people like me who witness how much work you go through and how much time you spend to make life better for the seniors in Comfort.

You are the best I’ve come in contact with and I’m proud to call you my friend. Thank you dear friend, for your help and constant devotion as we have worked together this past few months to get the newsletter up and running, and make it so that you can be proud of it. I’m sure your seniors are proud of it as well. It is my hope that the Comfort Golden Age Center will continue to grow, and I’m very hopeful that our mutual efforts have helped improve communication with the area seniors and as a result will help make that future growth a reality.

I hope to see you this spring. Thank you again! You are one amazing lady!!

"The Comfort Golden Age Center is a GREAT place. Every time I go there I have an awesome time! I love to talk with my friends and they always have great food.  I have also attended each of their health fairs so far (they have them once a year) and they are FREE! Come join all the fun at the Comfort Golden Age Center.

Greetings Y’all,

After 6 months in Texas, I now understand how much easier “y’all” is rather than “all of you”....

Being a new resident in Comfort and having come on my own, I must share that the Golden Age Center has been such a blessing of friendship, support, resources, and great company.

The warmth of Dinah, Leah, Doris and all the wonderful folks who gather at the Center have enriched my life and pushed away any loneliness that might have otherwise tried to creep in.

Whether it’s fresh eggs from Keith and Schatzie, a warm cup of coffee, crafts, or the joy of listening to the various Texas accents, I always feel welcome, right at home even, from the moment I come in. I always think the Golden Age Center smells like chocolate, but I may also have a good imagination… or an affinity for chocolate.

Another wonderful benefit has been visiting the Center on Thursdays with a friend I care for a few days a week. We play Bingo and enjoy the kindness and humor of Doris, Leland, Mary, Sam, Charlene, and of course Charlie.

Afterwards a game of cards, conversation, and a look through the food pantry and puzzles makes for a great start to our day. My friend just lights up in the company of such fine people who always take a moment to lend a hand or word of encouragement coupled with true sincerity. My friend and I make our time at the Center part of our “ladies time out” and I know she looks forward to it and her wonderful husband gets some free time for himself.

I encourage everyone to stop by the Golden Age Center and share the simple pleasure of good old fashioned hospitality, companionship, and all manner of resources for seniors.

Before I moved here, many asked me what I was going to do in Texas as I didn't know a soul, I replied, “ I will make new friends as I am certain there’s plenty of good folks to meet.”

Indeed there are many kind folks here at the Comfort Golden Age Center, the Hill Country, deep in the Heart of Texas…

Feeling Blessed,

Susan Bell
