Social isolation is a significant concern in our rural area and negatively affects mental and emotional well-being, cognitive health, and overall physical health. Older adults are particularly vulnerable as they experience retirement, loss of spouses and loved ones, declining health, and changes in mobility and independence. 

Rural living can intensify these challenges. Limited transportation, decreased mobility, shrinking social networks, and fewer programs and services can make it difficult for seniors to maintain meaningful social connections and stay active. For seniors living alone in rural communities, these overlapping challenges can lead to increasing disconnection and declining health. As opportunities for social interaction become more limited, seniors may lose important sources of companionship, support, and engagement, increasing their vulnerability to poor health and reduced quality of life. 

Senior community centers, like CGAC, provide important and needed support, enrichment, and social interaction to fill the gaps and to promote vibrant living and quality of life. CGAC encourages and facilitates independent living through Health & Wellness Programs, Social Activities, Community Service and Outreach, Nutritional Programs, and Supportive Resources. In short, CGAC provides a welcoming place to go, beneficial things to do, and caring people to spend time with. The center is open weekdays to provide opportunities for seniors to connect with others, stay active, learn, and access resources that support health and independence.
